Let’s go back in time–The date is Friday, August 6, 2010. I was with a few friends headed to an Aggie Happy Hour at Indulj Lounge in D.C.
I had a feeling it was going to turn into one of those nights where you wake up the next morning and promise to the heavens that you will never drink again if you make it through the hangover.
TMI Moment…I know my body. I was supposed to have my monthly visitor that morning and she was running a little late. For piece of mind, I stopped off at the Rite-Aid on the way to happy hour and picked up a cheap-o pregnancy test. When we arrived at Indulj, I went into the bathroom, took the test…NEGATIVE. Cool…(cue the music)..SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS. SHOTS.
It ended up being a great night! But…the next morning…not so much.
I went into my purse to find my phone and I saw the pack of pregnancy tests…looked at the negative test, and to my surprise that ONE line that was there last night, had magically turned into TWO. Hmm..maybe the test sat for too long. I don’t know. So I decided to take the other one that was left in the box and guess what it was? Positive.
Immediately…I called Mel. His answer, “Maybe the brand you got was just cheap. I’m going to get some good ones now.” He went to CVS and got a double pack of First Response Digital Pregnancy Tests. And you know what it was.
Big. Fat. Positive.
That’s what I received on Saturday, August 7, 2010–the (somewhat) Official Big Fat Positive pregnancy test.
The first thing that came out of Mel’s mouth, “Soooo, we’re having a baby?” Although several witty responses ran through my mind at that very moment, I simply said, “Yep. I guess so.” We sat there, and sat, and sat. Looked at each other and sat some more. What doctor will I choose? Will it be a boy or a girl? Where are we going to live? How will I tell my mom?! And most of all, how do I walk around being “normal” when I just found out there is a little baby brewing in my belly?
Who knew that a $17.99 item from CVS would bring us an indescribable joy in the form of a bouncing baby girl? We sure didn’t. But we are more than happy that it did.
Hugs, Kisses, and (several) Pregnancy Tests,
